Will Blackthorn make a 100lb Warbow? The ultimate primitive technology weapon. Part One. Primitive Technology from the Hedgerow. Blackthorn (prunus spinosa) is one of the commonest shrubby trees to be found along tens of thousands of miles of English hedgerows. Related to the plum, blackthorn famously blossoms in early spring and sparkles the hedgerows with dazzling white blossom for a few brief weeks. I have made one bow from blackthorn, a powerful short bow drawing ninety pounds. Now I have a longbow length of straight blackthorn – but will it make a 100lb medieval style Warbow? I use a yew warbow at the beginning and end of this video as well as a medieval style low fletched arrow armed with a hand-forged type 10 arrow head by fletcher and arrowsmith Will Sherman.
