How will Fit for 55 proposals affect the automotive industry?

The European Commission’s Fit for 55 proposals have received the backing of the EU’s 27 member states. The plans include a de-facto ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel vehicles, hybrids, and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) from 2035. But concessions have been made around the development of e-fuels and targets for low-volume manufacturers. Autovista24 editor Phil Curry explains how the latest proposals will affect Europe’s vehicle manufacturers, alongside deputy editor Tom Geggus and journalist Rebeka Shaid.
