The Dakar desert rally is one of the most difficult rally raid events in the world. The event covers thousands of miles and is open to rally cars, trucks, and bikes. The 2023 Dakar event is currently in progress, but in this video, we’re taking it back to 1980. Jean Francois Piot (a successful WRC rally driver himself) is the mastermind credited with one of the most ambitious Dakar efforts in history: fielding a team of Vespa P200e scooters to run the event! What challenges did the riders face, and did they finish? We answer both of those questions in this video!
