This is it, the current terminus of the Ashby Canal is just a handful of miles away. This final section is said to offer the finest, most gorgeous scenery so far – perhaps even of any canal on the network.
Before reaching the end of what has been a very ‘mixed’ and surprising journey, I still have the small matter of strong winds gusting to 50mph, as well as a tunnel (which carries the canal under the village of Snarestone), to contend with.
