In the late 1800s, two French army officers attempted to fly an airship with the help of electricity but faced many troubles and failed. Since then we have come a long way and electrically powered model aircraft have been flown since the 1970s. However, the problem that still hounds us is the battery issue. They are not light enough and not powerful enough to carry the planes to a longer distance. However the day is not far when commercial jets will become electrical and reduce the carbon emission drastically.
