American fans saw some familiar faces at the 1976 24 Hours of Le Mans, as some NASCAR teams made the trip over the Atlantic for the twice-around-the-clock classic. Hershel McGriff and W.C. Donlavey each brought a V8-powered stock car to the Circuit de la Sarthe. The class proved very popular among the fans, but what exactly led to it’s introduction?
