How will these changes affect you? YouTube is only following the laws as currently set by the FTC. We need to help the FTC understand what it means to be on YouTube as a creator, viewer, and parent. Family-friendly content should not be penalized for making quality content. For the channels that DO make Kids’ content, they should not be demonitized for being educational. For crafts and arts, we should not be categorized as “child” content either. “Female” topics are not childish. Please read the “TALKING POINTS” documents before submitting a comment.

Dear FTC members,
I am a (content creator/viewer/parent). I would urge you to rethink the current rules and how vague they are. As a (content creator/viewer/parent), I value (insert your values and how YouTubers/craft/art helps you). feel free to explain how female topics are not childish and how this rule can hurt many female creators. if you’re a parent, please explain how much child-friendly content is important to you and how by giving your child access to your device, it is consent. Feel free to explain how you prefer targetted ads that show your actual interests and child interests vs random car or horror film ads.

what I wrote to the FTC comment Link:
Dear FTC,
I’m a YouTuber who makes content about craft products and crafting. According to the new rules, crafts and “toys”, would be under the “child” category. However, please hear me out. The craft product reviews I make are to empower parents to save money. I discuss all the cons and pros of products. I grew up in a low-income family so this channel helps me help other adults with the buying power to make informed decisions. In addition, crafting is not an exclusively childish activity. The manner in which the craft is presented is important. Crafting is a therapeutic activity that helps many people deal with depression and anxiety. Moreover, the idea of putting crafts with “child-type” content is derogatory towards many independent female YouTubers. Many crafters who are female will work with clay, squishies, doll modifications, textiles, and so on. Pushing “female” interests as child-like will hurt women in this industry. Many of our male counterparts who craft, use power tools, and machinery. In essence, it will inadvertently hurt women in this industry as collateral. Also, many “toys” are not exclusively for children. I am a toy collector; toys from the 80s are antiques. Many exclusive figurines cost well over hundreds of dollars. These toys and figurines are for display purposes. Moreover, as crafters, we create works of art that are transformative in nature. Playing with dolls is arguably for children, however, creating a work of art from a canvas or blank doll/squishy is artistic. Please consider the art and craft community with the manner in which our topic is presented, rather than the topic itself. As a female creator, it’s already very difficult climbing the ladder, but for the FTC to potentially categorize “female” hobbies as childish, will create an even bigger gap in this industry. Girl topics are not childish. Craft kits and toy reviews help consumers make the right decisions. Thank you for reading.
